Classroom Setting
The classroom in which I teach is made up of a mix of 10-12th grade students. In this "cooperative learning" environment students can be observed actively participating in the writing process through the use of technology.
With 28 Macintosh computers, and access to the "Internet", students are provided with a wide variety of ways in which they can acquire "ownership" of their writing projects. Each student has his/her own computer, and they work individually as well as in small groups. During the course of the semester the students will work on as many as 20 different writing assignments, and share their writing through "peer evaluations". The main objective in the "lab" is to foster a "higher level" of critical thinking in the learners.
In my classroom you will find a high degree of "student ownership", in that the students will be on task meeting deadlines, editing, producing, and presenting their writing. On the classroom walls many of the student's writing examples will be displayed, as well as poster, quotes, and banners that relate to the curriculum
