Islander
Showcase Classic
ìNebraskaís Only College Showcase
Tournamentî
July 26th -27th
Fonner Park Soccer Complex -
Grand Island, Nebraska
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What
is it?
A boyís
soccer tournament designed to expose upcoming high school student-athletes to
college soccer coaches from the Midwest.
Please, do not have players that have already graduated from high school
on your roster for this event. If
they would like to attend and visit with college coaches in attendance however,
that is certainly permissible.
How
many teams and format of play?
Our
tournament format will consist of 16 teams in a round-robin styled tournament. There will be 2 separate groupings with
each team playing the other 7 teams in their group 1 time. The games will be 50 minutes each, with
no halftime. Substitutions will be
allowed at any dead ball and encouraged to be done quickly to keep the flow of
the game moving. Each team will effectively play for one hour, and then have a
one hour break, before their next game begins. We have done this to provide the
college coaches an opportunity to watch more kids play over the course of the
weekend. With each team playing a
total of 350 minutes over the duration of the tournament, there will be ample
time for the players to showcase their abilities to the college coaches.
Cost?
$975 per
team, with rosters of no more than 15 players allowed. ($975/15 = $65 per player)
($65 for a
player to get to play close to home in front of college coaches, and for all of
those college coaches to have the childís personal contact information could
prove to be invaluable with the skyrocketing costs of a college education. We are anticipating having a minimum of
10 college coaches in attendance our first year of the tournament and then
growing each year after that.)
Player
Bios:
Each
player will fill out a one-page bio sheet in advance when the team registration
is sent in. This bio sheet will
contain much information and will be printed and bound into a booklet to be given
to the college coaches in attendance, as well as sent to others that are not
able to attend the event the first year.
This 240 page book will provide the coaches valuable information about
each player. These sheets will
include a place to attach a facial photo, as well as information such as:
playerís contact information, parentís contact information, playing history,
accomplishments, positions played, high school team information, future area of
interested study, academic information, etc.
Parental
and Player/Student COLLEGE PLANNING SESSION:
On
Saturday night, July 26th, there will be a presentation done by
Chris Kranjc, Hastings College Head Coach – Menís Soccer, designed to
help players and parents prepare for the college experience. Things such as: applying for aid,
scholarships, and grants, as well as what to expect in terms of the game of
soccer and how the recruiting process is done.
